In
civilisations across the world, Man has traditionally taken
the utmost time and effort to perfect his tools – and
none more than his weapons.
Legends abound of great warriors with weapons with magical powers. Bows, arrows,
and swords were fashioned by craftsmen who took immense pride in their handiwork.
The engravings on many swords were designed not only to bring luck to their
bearers but also give the utmost respect to their victims.
Hunters too have traditionally shown that respect to their quarry, and their
implements, from the intricately engraved shotguns of James Purdey and Holland & Holland
to the more understated but classically functional fishing reels of Reuben
Heaton, Hardy Bros., Walter Dingley, and J.W. Young, all bear witness to the
care and craftsmanship that warrant their worth to their
owners.
We at DoctorFly Classic English Fishing feel that today’s reliance on
technology to mass produce computer designed rods and reels, manufactured down
to a cost
rather
than up
to a standard,
has taken some of the soul and respect out of our sport.
We are in the process of developing a range of classic, traditionally
styled fishing tackle, designed and made by English craftsmen – who,
as experienced fishermen, can add that special element to their work.
